Punjab Urial
The Punjab Urial is a subspecies of Urial found in the Salt Range mountains of Punjab province, Pakistan — home to an estimated 3,000 wild animals. Slightly more reddish in colour than other Urial subspecies, the Punjab Urial is distinguished by its white bib, long black neck ruff, and sweeping cervical horns. The Salt Range is exceptionally productive, regularly yielding large rams. A horn size of 26 inches and above is considered very good, with the average coverage ranging from 24 to 30 inches.

Salt Range,
Rich Grounds.
The Punjab Urial thrives across the broken ridgelines and open slopes of the Salt Range — terrain that combines open visibility for the stalker with enough relief to hold consistently large populations of trophy rams.
The season runs from Beginning of December through end of March. The prime window falls mid-December to mid-January, when comfortable temperatures allow hunting throughout the day without excessive heat. Success rates remain consistently high across the entire open season — this is a hunt that will almost certainly succeed whenever you go.
The terrain. Punjab Urial occupies the Salt Range — a chain of hills rising to a regional maximum of 3,300 ft (1,000 m), with the primary hunting zone spanning 600–2,300 ft (180–640 m). December and January are ideal, with daytime highs around 64°F (18°C). Early October can reach 100°F (38°C) but cools steadily through the month. Early and late hours may be cool but are never cold — comfortable conditions persist throughout the season.
Spot. Stalk.
Choose Your Weapon.
The Punjab Urial is pursued exclusively by spot-and-stalk across the open ridges and broken slopes of the Salt Range — available to both rifle and bow hunters, offering an exceptional opportunity for the serious archer.
Days Total — Rifle
A focused, efficient pursuit across Salt Range terrain. Trophy rams are located through patient glassing, with the stalk closing the distance across open ridgelines.
Days Total — Bow
An excellent opportunity for the bowhunter. The additional days allow time to close to close-range shooting distance across terrain that demands the highest level of fieldcraft.
Glass the Ridges
Set up before dawn on elevated ground across from the Salt Range slopes, scanning for rams in their early-morning feeding areas.
Identify the Ram
Assess rates for the sweeping cervical horn length and profile. At 26 inches and above, a Punjab Urial ram is an exceptional trophy by any measure.
Execute the Stalk
Work the wind and terrain to close the gap. Rifle hunters press to a comfortable shooting range; bow hunters must use every fold in the ground to approach unseen.
The Shot
Salt Range terrain offers varied shooting positions — from open hillside to broken rock. A steady hold and calm execution reward the prepared hunter.
With an estimated 3,000 animals in the Salt Range and one of the highest success rates in Pakistan, the Punjab Urial is the benchmark mountain hunt of the subcontinent — accessible, rewarding, and unforgettable for rifle hunter and archer alike.
