PUNJAB URIAL (Ovis vignei punjabiensis)

INFORMATION

Punjab Urial is the sub specie of Urial found in salt range mountains of Punjab province of Pakistan. Salt range is the place where an estimated number of 3000 Urials graze in the wild grounds. The area is very rich to produce huge rams. Mostly a horn size of 26” inches and above is considered to be very good. The horns are cervical lightly in some Urials. Its slightly more reddish in color then other sub species of Urials. Males have a white bib and a long black neck ruff. The coverage horn length of Punjab Urial is 24-30 inches.

Altitude and Temperature:

The temperatures may rise to 100°F (38°C) during the day in early October, but are expected to decrease to approximately 90°F (32°C) by the end of the month. Similarly, early March can experience elevated temperatures, but conditions are expected to become even warmer as the month progresses. During December and January, temperatures may drop to 64°F (18°C), allowing hunters to engage in their activities throughout the day without excessive perspiration. The early and late hours of the day may be somewhat cool, but they are not cold.
The highest elevation in this prime Blanford urial and Sind ibex region is approximately 3,300 feet (1,000 m), with the majority of hunting occurring at altitudes ranging from 600 to 2,100 feet (180 to 640 meters).

Hunting season:

The best time to go hunting for Punjab urial is between the end of March and the beginning of November. Midway through November and the middle of January are prime seasons for Punjab urial hunting in this region, because to the pleasant weather that lasts throughout that time. The timing is crucial for a comfortable hunt, since this hunt has a very high success rate. Hunters should think of this as a hunt that will almost certainly be successful at whatever time of year they go hunting.

Hunting method and number of days required:

The Punjab urial can be hunted using the spot and stalk method. It can be pursued using both rifle and bow. This hunt presents an excellent opportunity for bow hunters. On the other hand, a bow hunt requires 05 hunting days in addition to 02 days for travel, for a total of 07 days of hunting, whereas a rifle hunt just requires 03 days plus 02 travel days.
