KENNION GAZELLE (Gazelle bennettii)

INFORMATION

Bigger than the Benetti race of Indian gazelles, but marginally smaller than either of the Salt Range races. Particularly in the winter, the sandy coat is fairly lengthy. Male horns range in length from 9 to 11 inches (23 to 28 cm), with the largest horn on record being 14-1/2 inches (36.8 cm) (Rowland Ward, 1909). Compared to other Indian gazelle races, the horns are closer together at the base. Compared to an Indian gazelle, the horns of the female are 70% longer than those of the male. forty to fifty pounds (18 to 23 kg). In Iran, specimens from Kerman and Fars in the south are smaller than those from southern Khorasan. Females are noticeably smaller than males. With the exception of the Lut and Salt deserts, they are found throughout central and southern Iran, as well as southern Baluchistan in Pakistan, west of the Kirthar Range. Replaced by the goitered gazelle at higher altitudes.

Altitude and Temperature:

Early October daytime temperatures may reach 100°F (38°C), but they should drop to 90°F (32°C) by month's end. In early March, temperatures can be high, but they should rise further. December and January temperatures can dip to 64°F (18°C), allowing hunters to work all day without overheating. The morning and evening are chilly but not cold.
The maximum elevation in this good Kennion gazelle habitat is 3,300 feet (1,000 m), however most hunting occurs from 600 to 2,100 feet.

Hunting season:

Kennion gazelle hunting season runs from October 1 to March. The best season to hunt Kennion gazelle in this location is mid-November to mid-January because to good weather. Regardless of hunting season, hunters should see this as a chance to succeed.
